Leaders and Anxiety

Leaders often think they are managing performance… the more they think that way, they would be gripped with performance anxiety.

But leaders, in reality, knowingly or unknowingly, are shaping a legend.

Not the kind written in books but the one that lives silently in the minds of their team.

Because every thought you hold, every word you choose, and every action you take…

… becomes a story others tell about you.

And over time, that story becomes your presence.

Man in sunglasses stands by an open car door, outdoors with trees in the background. Sketch style, relaxed mood.

The ‘World Story Telling Day’ just got over last week. So, what’s the story that you wish the world tells about you?

Taking a cue from Shrimath Valmiki Ramayana as that reveals story telling as an art and science, beautifully.

Śrī Rāma is not followed because of authority alone… is revered because his thoughts, words, and actions are aligned with Dharma.

There is no gap, no performance, no contradiction, and this alignment becomes trust.

This trust becomes reverence.

And in that (his) presence, people don’t just comply… they offer their best.

Today, many leaders are trying to “build culture” but culture is not built through initiatives.

Culture is absorbed from the leader because teams are always (silently) asking:

- Can I trust what is said here?

- Is there consistency between word and action?

- Is this a space of integrity… or convenience?

And their answers shape how they show up.

So pause and ask: “What legend is forming around me right now?”

And more importantly… is it one that invites compliance… or reverence?

Because leadership is not what you declare.

It is what others experience in your presence…

Coachness™ - our unique module based on the ever relevant Indic Wisdom precisely helps building this presence, one day at a time.
