Why do we sometimes know what needs to be done, and yet cannot seem to move?

Updated: Oct 9
Why does clarity disappear under pressure?
Why do patterns we thought we had moved beyond return?
And why can our best intentions still fail to translate into conscious action?
Because the obstacle is not a lack of another tool, as there are obstacles within the movement itself.
In our five weeks of masterclass, we explored five selves:
Fragmented self
Observing self
Regulated self
Integrated self
Instrumental self
A movement from fragmentation towards conscious instrumentality.
But did you think of what can interrupt this movement?
"In the presence of Indic Wisdom," talk given at Guiding Light Coaching alumni retreat, we went back to Maharishi Patanjali.
The nine antarayas are not another framework we have created, but they are the obstacles.

Whatever the self.
Whatever the stage.
Whatever the context.
These are the nine obstacles that can interrupt our movement towards steadiness, clarity and conscious action.
We then mapped these antarayas across the koshas... because an obstacle does not always announce itself at the level where we first notice its consequences.
What we experience as a difficulty in action may have deeper roots in the layers of our being.
Now, this gives us an interesting way to bring the two explorations together:
The five selves help us understand the movement.
The nine antarayas help us understand what can obstruct that movement.
The koshas help us explore where those obstacles may be operating.
And the sahabhuvas? They become our diagnostics.
The accompanying manifestations that can help us notice that an antaraya may be present.
Not to diagnose another person, or label or judge, but to (just) enquire / inquire.
This is what we learnt in sixth masterclass.
Five selves.
Nine obstacles.
The koshas.
With the sahabhuvas as diagnostics.
And, most importantly, a return to one of the first principle that sits at the heart of Coachness:
We do not need another framework for every complexity, but need to understand the principles that give rise to the complexity.
Indic Wisdom has been exploring these principles for a very long time.
We are only beginning to listen.
